Enjoy wine tasting without the wine country trip.
In a land where one can find either a coffee shop or brewpub on most corners, one would think a winery or two might also be near. A bevy of up and coming winemakers had the same thought. As a result, downtown Portland is catching up with the current count at four wineries.. two more to open this summer.
As we anticipate their arrival, here is a fun tasting tour, including one of our favorites, Grochau Cellars in the northwest industrial area, 3.25 minutes from downtown PDX. John's well known in the local food and wine industry, yet somewhat under the radar on a global scale. His wines are well worth discovering as you'll find during your visit.
Sharing space at Grochau is Boedecker Cellars where husband/ wife team Stewart Boedecker and Athena Pappas produce crisp Pinot gris, vineyard designate Pinot noir, Chardonnay with character, and for those hot days, one of our favorite Rose's.
For a very fun way to end the tasting part of your day, visit the girls at Hip Chicks Do Wine at their industrial winery in inner southeasst Portland. Just a few minutes away. Follwoing your tastings, nearby Division or Hawthorne streets may tempt you with restaurants of most any style.
